L.A. Train tragedy strikes close to home

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

RachealWe join with the Anti-Body team in prayerful support of Anti-Body’s intern, Racheal. She was in the Chatsworth Metrolink train accident yesterday and is in critical condition. She’s in the middle of brain surgery and has sustained major head trauma, as well as other injuries.

Racheal has interned with Anti-Body one day a week because she wants to develop her own line of skincare products. She graduated from the University of Zambia, and is now a student at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. She and a fellow student in Zambia won a competition with their business plan to study in the US with a goal to study hard and gain as much experience as possible before returning to Zambia.

Please join us with your thoughts and prayers as the doctors work to nurse Racheal back.

Boston screening of The Fair Trade movie: success!

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I blogged about a Boston screening here, and apparently, it went very well. Thanks to all who came out in the thunderstorm to see the movie! Here’s a recap from one viewer:

Hi!!!  Saw it, loved it, talked about it, still talking about it, bought it…!

The Screening on Friday at Hope Fellowship was great!  There were 27 people there which was great considering we were experiencing lightning and thunder storms which also made for a cool affect while watching the film.  Our congregation’s BFJN fair trade representative coordinated a lot of nice fair trade snacks & beverages too including (coffee, tea, chocolate, brownies, & bananas…)

There was also a rep from http://www.bostonfaithjustice.org/ who set up a table, handed out fair trade pamphlets, and spoke at the end of the film as well.

All in all it was a successful night!  Everyone seemed to really enjoy the movie (there were laughs & there were tears.)  I bought a copy today online that I’m planning to pass around to friends & co-workers in Boston and I’m going to buy another copy to send to ———‘s family in CO to get the word out there too!  One city at a time… 🙂

Thanks again to Boston Faith and Justice Network and The Crossing for sponsoring this screening, as well as our Travis Hardy for making the contacts.

Monday, June 9th, 2008

If you remember the key players from the movie (The Fair Trade), Steven is wonderfully funny, but also heartfelt and passionate about the reasons that they started their fair trade business. Update from Anti-Body…

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Anti-Body‘s most recent e-mail update had some information on Tamara’s trip to Liberia:

Anti-Body’s recent trip to Liberia was organized to officially launch Phase One of Cooperation Coconut! Though we’ve been working out details for months, it was the trip that allowed us to start building a relationship with the future employees of the co- operative. Each person has their unique story and we look forward to introducing them to you over the next several weeks so that you too find yourself invested in the lives of those who will provide Anti-Body with fair trade and unrefined coconut oil.
